Why can't big AdWords agencies be trusted?

The idea of a 'big creative advertising agency' conjures images of a big reception area, nice big plants, some of those expensive marketing magazines no one ever reads scattered liberally on a big glass table, a receptionist looking like a young sexy cyber-hacker who talks like the Rachel android from Bladerunner, and great big 'clever' posters on the walls.

But it's not really like that.

Most online marketing agencies don't have plush premises, because clients never actually visit. It's all facade - even with the big, plush websites with things that flash and go whiz-bang. Most of the agencies we have worked for or with have been incredibly uninspiring and depressing places.

Not places I would want managing my online business marketing.

Most AdWords agencies are actually side-projects of larger companies, offering search engine optimisation, web design, and things like that. Lazy, lazy

Mid-sized agencies also have a tendency to slip into a mode of general apathy and couldn't care less. No one wants to do more work than the others - so a subconscious agreement is formed where everyone works just a little less than the least working person. It doesn't take long for everyone to be playing videogames, spending all day on facebook, forwarding nonsense to each other, arriving late into the office. We have seen it all before.
